A Message for Parents from the Main Office

The collaboration of parents, staff, and office staff is crucial with the organizational procedures that are beneficial to all, especially the daily instruction of our children. Below are some procedures that will help parents, teachers and the office staff work best together.

Messages from Home
If you need to communicate with your child's teacher, the best way is to send a note in with your child. If you must get in touch with your child or the teacher during the day, you may call the office, but please try to call early in the day, before the class goes to lunch. Our goal is to minimize classroom disruptions as much as possible.

When Your Child Is Absent
If your child is absent, please call the school after 9:30AM. It is also important to keep our phone lines open during dismissal time (2:50PM - 3:30PM) when crucial calls need to be made.

Lateness Issues
Please have your child arrive on time each morning for they are missing valuable instruction. Lateness causes an interruption to the office staff, teachers, and classmates. Any student who is late will be entered the P.S. 9's "Late Log."

Forgotten Items
Parents, please remind your children to bring their coats and warm clothing during cold months. Parents, please do your best to use the "red folder" as a tool to deliver messages, payments, consent forms, etc. If your child does not eat school lunch, please give a bag lunch to him/her before they leave for school.

Change of Address or Phone Numbers
Please inform the office of any changes in your address, phone number, or any change of the adults you have designated to pick up your child (this new information mst also be entered on your child's "blue office card"). If you have moved, you must also provide us with proof of your new address by submitting a copy of your recent ConEd bill.

Parents Visiting the Classroom
Parents may visit the classroom during Open School, or by appointments. You will need to come first to the Main Office to obtain a floor pass, which should be returned to the office when you leave.

Traveling Home Issues
Parents should have a letter ready for their child to bring to his/her teacher when they come into their class that very same morning so that the teacher will be aware of any travel changes early in the day before dismissal. Should a note not be brougt in by the student, the request must be faxed (212) 280-6223 before 1PM with clar instructions: Full name of student, their class/teacher, the name of the person who will pick up the child, concluding with the parent's signature for identity purposes. All changes must be in writing; no verbal changes are accpeted. If there is a change in the Afterschool pickup, please contact the Afterschool office directly at (212) 787-1200.

Busing Issues
Parents are encouraged to call the bus company directly when they are concerned about a delay (718) 585-3592. Please have your child's bus number available.

Student Transcripts
To speed up the release of your child's transcript to other schools, it would be wise to include envelopes and stamps, with your signed written request.
