Admissions
This page is designed to give you more information about PS9 in Manhattan. If you'd like more information about the NYCDOE application process, please visit Application Information.
Getting Started
Before contacting us, please use the DOE School Search (external link) website to determine if you live in the PS9 zone.
Once you have secured a home in the PS9 zone (or confirmed that your current home is within the zone), please email lauren@ps9.org (September to June) or welcome@ps9.org (July to August). Please be sure to include your new address, your full name, your child’s full name, your child’s date of birth, and the last grade the child completed.
All New York City families with children born in 2021 are encouraged to apply for PK. Even if your child is currently attending a 3K program, you still have to apply to PK. The PK application will open in late January 2024. For more information, visit the DOE’s PK admissions website. Still have questions? You can call 718-935-2009 or visit your local Family Welcome Center.
If you have a child born in 2020, the Kindergarten application usually opens in December. For more information, visit the DOE’s Kindergarten admissions website.

English as a New Language (ENL)
English as a new language (previously referred to as English as a second language) services are required by law to be provided at every New York City school. Even if you do not move into the PS9 zone, your child will get English language support if they are not fluent in English. Children who are multilingual are administered a test as soon as they start school to see how much English help is needed.
Specials
Students at PS9 receive instruction in art, music, Spanish (K-5), technology (1-5), and physical education weekly.
Grade-level
NYC uses the year of birth to determine the grade-level a child should enter. If this does not match with your child’s previous schooling, you can discuss adjusting this with the principal during pre-registration.
